* This society does not care if you're the dumbest vegetable on
earth,
if you do something wrong, someone will make you pay the
price! ;)

* Finally, the much-awaited sequel has come out and I've finally got the
cash to buy one myself. Diablo2 is a great game that, although involves
a lot of fighting, requires less fighting skill compared to the conventional
arcade fighting games. Rather, it is more of knowing your own abilities,
comparing them with the opponents', and deciding whether to back out
or not from a fight or to ask for help. It's quite complicated, but
once you learn to like the basics the rest will simply follow.

* note: There still is pretty much unfinished work in this FAQ, but I
don't plan to get active in FAQ writing anytime soon so might
as well submit this. I also have to finish my SC and BW FAQs
and since I'm going through a lotta sched changes right now,
maybe next time =p

Simply put, Diablo2 is a point-and-click game. Click on items and
you'll pick them up; click on friends and you'll talk to them; click on
enemies and you'll kill them. Right clicking causes you to cast your spell
and nothing else. You can, however, make use of the keyboard since the
game utilizes hot keys as well. One thing new about Diablo2, however, is
the fact that you no longer have to click like hell when attacking a very
strong monster; just hold the left mouse button on him and he's done for.

One exception would be the shift key. Holding this while attacking
will cause your player to refrain from walking while you attack. Normally,
your player will move toward the enemy and strike---not so when you hold
the shift key. It's very useful if you're using arrows so you won't have
to get close before you fire.

And new to us Diablo fans is the use of the two auxillary keys:
Ctrl and Alt. Holding them yields two results: run and view all onscreen
items respectively. The RUN (ctrl) button does have it's limits though:
it can be depleted. You'll have to keep an eye on the yellow bar below,
since it tells you how much stamina you have left for running. The SHOW
ITEMS (alt) button on the other hand works like Hellfire's search spell,
and like before, does not include doors, portals, and shrines and the
"search", but unlike before, now features a boxed name of the item above
that item. You may click the name box instead and pick the item up just
the same---cool!

1. Character Classes:
a. Paladin - your typical knight in shining armor---only he doesn't
have a shining armor yet. You'll have to either fight
for it or raise the money to buy it. Good at swords,
maces, scepters (yeah, scepters), and other melee
as well as semi-magical weapons.
b. Barbarian - no, not your typical Conan. This barbarian is a shaman
at heart, and unlike the "barbarian" featured in an
altered Hellfire, this one gives much room for spellcasting
though these spells mostly only increase his barbaric
capabilities in combat. Also good at melee weapons,
but is more approriate for the heavier ones like the
axe or the two-handed swords.
c. Amazon - every game that allows you to select from different
players must include a female, otherwise its creators
will be called sexists. Should have been the exact
translation of Diablo1's Rogue, but was given as her
specialty a new item, the Javelin. Of course, she
is also respectable when it comes to bows and arrows.
d. Necromancer - yeah, mah current fav, this type introduces an ability
so new it actually alters the gameplay alot: raising
the dead. Yeah! That dead will now follow you wherever
you go, much like Diablo1's Golem spell. But wait,
Necromancers also have Golem spells of their own!
Very cool!. On the down side, I can think of only
one weapon that suits a Necromancer fine, namely,
the (Fairy Godmother's) wand.
e. Sorceress - you're dealing with the supernatural, so what else
do you expect? A magician, of course! Now there are
two females to choose from, and both aren't to be under-
estimated since they can do things the other characters
can't. She is, of course, best at staves, and as good
at that as an Amazon is with her javelins and bows.

2. The "Dashboard": (from left to right)
a. Life - the red orb being held by some sort of angelic figure.
Placing your mouse pointer above it lets it display
in numbers what the red liquid expresses in proportion:
the amount of life you have left.
b. Attack - tells you what type of attack you are currently prepared
to do (eg. melee or throwing). Clicking on it will allow
you to change that attack type.
c. Experience - the thin white bar; gives you an idea of how far you've
go and how far you still are from the next level. Placing
the mouse pointer above it will give you a more exact
idea.
d. Auto-Run - is almost self-explanatory; clicking it will enable
you character to skip walking and start running whenever
he/she moves.
e. Stamina - the thick yellow bar; keeps you informed on how tired
your legs are of running, if you deplete it, you can
no longer run unless you stop to rest. Then the bar
will refill itself.
f. Mini-panel - displays what else but a mini-panel that in turn would
have the following options: (from left to right)
- Character : displays your name, class, level, experience,
and other things about your player
- Inventory : displays the items you have and where
you have put them
- Skill Tree : displays the skills that you can do
as well as those you can't along with
their prerequisites
- Auto-map : displays what part of the current level
you are in have you already passed
through and where you are in the map
right now. Allies are also displayed.
- Message Log : what else but a log of messages...
- Quest Log : displays the quests you have already
done, those you need to do, and a faint
representation of those you havent
encountered yet.
- Game Menu : click this if you want to save, quit,
configure, and stuff like that

3. Character Stats:

The box on the upper-left most contains your name, and your class
is next to it. Your level determines how well you will fare against
different monsters. Experience is basically the number of points you
have gathered via slaughtering numerous demons. A certain number of
experience points, stated in the Next Level box, is your goal to raise
your level by one. Here's a complete table:

Everytime your level is raised by one, you gain five stat points
which you should distribute wisely among your strength, dexterity,
vitality, and energy. Just click on the red button that appears to
distribute when possible.

| Strength | Dexterity | Vitality | Energy
-----------
* Min Stats: Paladin | 25 | 20 | 25 | 15
Barbarian | 30 | 20 | 25 | 10
Amazon | 20 | 25 | 20 | 15
Necromancer | 15 | 25 | 15 | 25
Sorceress | 10 | 25 | 10 | 35

Ok, on to the other parts. The life box explains in numbers
what the red liquid explains in amount---how much more damage can you'
take without dying. The same goes with mana, which is the amount of
"magic" you can use to pay for a spell's casting cost. Gold and Damage
are self-explanatory, while armor class is your chance of evading an
enemy's attack and Attack Rating is your chance of landing a hit everytime
you attack. The Resist to boxes tell you how much damage from a said
form of attack can you be invulnerable to.

4. Belt:

The small boxes just right of your "run meter" is your belt. They
pretty much work just like your inventory, but they cannot be hidden,
cannot hold gold coins, rings, amulets, and everything larger, and
can be accessed quickly by pressing the number corresponding to the
box whose item you'd like to use. Each box can hold more than just
one item depending on the kind of belt you are wearing.

5. Stash:

Since Diablo2 no longer saves the exact world (locations and
everything) as it is, you no longer have an infinite storage place
that goes by the name Tristram. If you drop something and save, that
something will be lost forever. But, to compensate (though I beg to
disagree), is the so-called Stash. In it you can store those oh-so-cool
weapons that your oh-so-weak self can't use yet ;) and those items
that serve as reserve for specific situations. It also has gold storage
in a separate "room", just like the one you have in your inventory.
Oops, forgot to tell ya the limits of them gold keepers, well actually
they come in two simple formulae,

Max Inventory Gold - Current Level x 10,000
Max Stash Gold - 50,000 (+50,000 every 10 levels)

This is where you're at whenever you start a new game. There are
four in total, and they all correspond to the four acts that comprise
the entire game. Each will of course have a unique cast, with Cain the
Elder (yeah, the "$100 Indentifier" in Diablo1) as the only constant,
and this time he identifies items without asking anything in return (yeah!)
There also will be a "traveler" in towns 1 and 2 and of course you'll
still see them in towns 2 and 3 respectively since it's them who brought
you those towns in the first place. Well anyway, here's a list of the
townsfolk in each act:

ROGUE ENCAMPMENT (Act 1):

Akara: - The equivalent of Adria in Diablo1, this purple-hooded leader
of the rogue group called the Sisters of the Sightless Eye will
give you not only give you several quests and fully replenish
you health and mana whenever you talk to her, but will also
trade a number of spell-oriented things like scepters, staves,
wands, potions, scrolls, and tomes.

Charsi: - Armed with a blacksmith's strength yet surprisingly charming
and sweet, this blonde babe is the one to go to whenever your
items are not as strudy as they used to and need a little tweaking.
And as the blacksmith, she will also be trading your everyday
weapons along with bow/crossbow ammo (yes, these babies already
NEED ammo in Diablo2)

Gheed: - Sells/trades the same type of wares that Charsi does, and although
he cannot repair like a blacksmith does, he can do something
else, something new to Diablo fans everywhere, something called
GAMBLING. It's just like dealing with Wirt in Diablo1, but you
don't have to spend 50 bucks just to take a look. Instead you'll
be presented a list of unidentified items that are available
at very high costs. It's your risk, although sometimes uniques
may come out. (hooooweeeee!!!)

Kashya: - An arrogant rogue who despises you at first, but will change
her mind on you later on. Then she will allow you to get some
occasionally much needed help from the best of her bow-wielding
warriors. But of course, nothing is free nowadays ;)

Warriv - The caravan traveler who'll take you east to Lut Gholein of Act
2 once you've defeated Act 1's major boss, Andariel. Of course,
you may also go back to Act 1 through him cause he'll be just
there for you at Lut Gholein's starting point.

LUT GHOLEIN (Act 2):

Atma - Often seen crying to herself, this poor mother will give you Act 2's
first quest, and won't be of much help afterwards.

Drognan - This a male and orange version of Akara, but without the ability
to heal and replenish mana. He will also give you a quest, and
is the primary source of spell-oriented things like scepters,
staves, wands, potions, scrolls, and tomes.

Elzix - An older, wiser, and more serious version of Gheed, this retired
warrior will, as Gheed does, sell you blacksmith's items as well
as give you a chance to gamble on one of the best (or worst) items
in the game!

Fara - Probably the most useful of Act 2's townsfolk, this red-haired
woman Paladin can not only do everything that Charsi normally
does (eg. trades and repairs weapons and armor), but in addition
to that heal and replenish your mana everytime you try to talk
to her.

Geglash - And now I present the most useless being in all of Diablo2.
This low-life fat drunkard annoys you the first time you meet
him, and will continue to because of his uselessness. He's just
like Diablo1's Farnham, but at least the latter can make you
laugh somtimes (remember the quote: "YOU DRINK WATER!?" ^_^)

Griez: - Yep, the resident mercinary. No need to earn his trust as with
Kashya, since for him all that counts is yer cold cash. You can
hire from him several spear-wielding warriors.

Jerhyn - As Lord of Lut Gholein, it is he who must solve the mysteries
that lie within the palace walls, yet like everyone else, he can't
He will come to you for help after some time, when you've already
gained his trust.

Kaelan - A palace guard, so what else do you expect him to do? Of course,
keep you out when Jerhyn doesn't want you in, and let you in
when his Lord says so.

Lysander - His restriction to potions and keys whenever you trade with
him makes him inferior to Drognan, who will, as stated, also
trade spell-oriented weapons. His easy access location, however,
sometimes makes him even more frequently visited than the former.

Meshif - The ship captain who'll take you, yet again, east to Kurast of
Act 3 once you've defeated Act 2's major boss, Duriel. Of course,
you may also go back to Act 2 through him cause he'll be just
there for you at the Kurast dock.

KURAST DOCKS (Act 3) [my favorite town! got a buttload o' gothic chicks,
walking around, carrying buckets of, well,.....
whatever! ^_^]

Alkor - An old man with an accent that gets pretty funny when he's angry.
(I just love the way he says, "DAMMIT") He has Lysander's wares,
Gheed's gambling system, and most important of all no one else's
stat improving quests. Visit him a lot. It will do you more good
than harm.

Asheara - Yeah! Many claim that Kurast is no longer a sight to behold,
but this babe sure proves otherwise ;) She is the leader of
a mercenary band of mages known as the Iron Wolves, and gives
out the most useful of employees in all of Diablo2. I always
try to weed out those with a "Cold, Fast Cast" ability since
it's they who have the ability to totally FREEZE the opponent
and do it repeatedly until they ALL DIE!! Hooyaah!!

Hralti - Will start out very near your starting point, but will be very
far from that the next time you visit the town. He is somewhat
secluded as with Alkor, and is your everyday blacksmith who comes
with everything that Charsi (as a blacksmith) can offer.

Natalya - Seemed as useless as that drunkard Geglash, but upon surfing
the net I found out that she actually had the potential to
be a spoiler. Notice how she mysteriously disappears after
you beat the crap out of Mephisto? Well what she was supposed
to say is STILL hidden somewhere in the Diablo2 CD and here
it is (SPOILER ALERT!!)...

"Word is spreading fast that you killed Mephisto. I'd be honored
to fight beside you and help, but I've just received my mission
orders. I'll be traveling to the Barbarian lands of the north,
but I can't tell you why. With luck, our paths will cross again.
Farewell..."

Ormus - Another "weird" person in the glorious town of Kurast, this retired
"great mage" is now your source of philosophical (not to mention
third person) views as well as some scepters, some staves, and
some wands. He will also sell some potions, some scrolls, some
tomes, and a mask---if he feels like doing so.

PANDEMONIUM FORTRESS (Act 4)

Halbu - Not much I can say about this guy cause he doesn't have a "Talk"
option, nor does he give you any quest at all. He does, however,
open his weapons and armor for trade. And he can repair too.

Jamella - Compliments Halbu's wares with those that are spell-oriented
like scepters, staves, and wands. She also sells some potions,
scrolls, and tomes, and even restores 100% of your own health
and mana everytime she is clicked. And last but not least, she
can offer anyone the pleasure of gambling.

Tyrael - None knows what an Archangel is supposed to look like, but if
it did look like him, it'd look so very cool. Blizzard's notion
of an Archangel having "tentacles" shooting from behind him is
just sooo new I find it worthy of attention! He will also give
you yer first mission.

SPECIAL MENTIONS:

Deckard Cain - found in all the Acts (though not right away in Act1),
Cain must have something very helpful and applicable in
all Acts to convince you to always tag him along. And he
does: FREE IDENTIFICATION! In Diablo2 you can no longer
use items that are unidentified, and that's why this skill
of Cain's is considered...very...helpful.

Flavie - A member of the Sisters of the Sightless Eye, this rogue stands
in your way towards the Cold Plains (in Act 1) and warns you
to retreat until you have finished your first mission. She looks
as if she's just another rogue guard like those in town, but
really she can be of much help (if you lure your enemies to her)
when you're still very weak and can't take out the next batch
of monsters on your own.

Hadriel - As Flavie is to Act 1, so is Hadriel to Act 4. He is an Archangel
who will prevent you from taking up the last mission (Diablo,
of course) until you complete the previous mission regarding
Mephisto's soulstone. And when you are finally allowed to proceed,
he will give you some tips on dealing with the Lord of Terror
himself.

Nothing much can be said about the "out of towns" as it is randomly
generated by software. The only pattern I can think of is that each area
"out of town" is either link to the town itself, another out of town,
a lower level, two of the above three, or even all of the above. Here's
a simple tree:

* Waypoints are links from a certain "out of town" to what else but the
town (or ANY OTHER waypoint, which makes it easier to travel directly
from Act 4 back to Act 1). They look differently on screen, but identical
in the auto-map (yes, that grey square thingy) and are simply activated
by the almighty left click. Note that not all the "out of town" sections
have their respective waypoints. The following are the only ones to
look out for:

ACT 1 - Rogue Encampment ACT 2 - Lut Gholein
Cold Plains Sewers 2
Stony Field Dry Hills
Darkwood Halls of the Dead 2
Black Marsh Far Oasis
Outer Cloister Lost City
Jail 1 Palace Cellar 1
Inner Cloister Arcane Sanctuary
Catacombs 2 Canyon of the Magi

ACT 3 - Kurast Docks ACT 4 - Pandemonium Fortress
Spider Forest City of the Damned
Great Marsh River of Flame
Flayer Jungle
Lower Kurast
Kurast Bazaar
Upper Kurast
Travincal
Durance of Hate 2

Quests in Diablo2 are no longer randomized in sets. Instead you
are given a total of six quests per act (except for Act 4 which has only
three quests) and these six never change. Also, you may not re-take these
quests and of course their respective rewards more than thrice (one for
normal, one for nightmare, and another for hell difficulty) And lastly,
most of the quests now do not just involve one task, rather a series of
different ones. Here they are:

Oops!!! under construction!!! coming soon!!! hehe =p

* for the rest of the item sections I won't be including much strategies
because that's what the game is all about---building your OWN strategy
and relying on the items of YOUR choice.

* These are the items whose description is written in plain white text.
Only for beginners who still cannot afford or haven't chanced upon an
item described in blue (magic), green (set), yellow (rare) or better
yet gold (unique) text. It does nothing besides what it should (inflict
damage, increase armor, etc.)

* The Defense and Min/Max Damages listed here are in an approximate-average
format, meaning you can still find items with stats greater or less
than the ones listed below.

* The following, on the other hand, are found on the descriptions of
rare weapons (written in yellow) There are two parts: the first word
and the second. The first words apply to all rare items, but the second
ones only apply to some or often even just one item type. These descriptions
do not in any way affect the abilities of the item, and here they are:

first words:

* And in case you don't know, rare items get their stats from three
randomly-generated "prefix" descriptions and another three randomly-
generated "suffix" descriptions, so, in theory, the most damaging rare
axe for a Barbarian would give him 150% damage, +150 to Attack Rating,
+2 to All Barbarian Skills, +5 Min Damage, +20 Max Damage, and finally
a +20 to Strength.....whew!

* But not to be outdone are the set items (those written in green) which
are somewhat halfway between magical, rare and uniques. They "may" be
found more than twice in a single game, but being quite rare, their
set of stats are theirs alone. Futhermore, if and only if all the members
of the set are equipped, they will give their owner an additional set
of bonuses. Here's a chart:

* As the name suggests, there is only one set of items of this kind and
they cannot be found twice in a single game. It's quite hard to get
all of them, as they can never be bought, only chanced upon while fighting
your way through hell's minions or by completing certain quests. They
can, however, 'cept for the "quest" items, be sold.

* Sadly, I can only put a few items on this section. I'm sure I just forgot
the rest, as I am just writing this whole faq (except for the charts)
from memory. Please email me on things you think should be included in
this section.

1) Potion of Healing

Red as blood? Yep, and it will restore all that vitality you've lost
in your most recent encounters. This baby is like THE mother of potions
and should be an indefinitely available commodity especially during
the earlier parts of the game. Healing potions come in all shapes and
sizes (and of course prizes) so here's a list from least to greatest:

Minor Healing Potion - within the thinnest of bottles
Light Healing Potion - in an ok bottle with a metal ring
Healing Potion - same as above but with two metal rings
Greater Healing Potion - in an even bigger bottle with three metal
rings
Super Healing Potion - same as above but filled to the brim

2) Potion of Mana

And on the blue corner, weighin so and so ounces, the Mana Potion!!
There will be times when this little beverage would prove more useful
than the red one, but those are limited times, so better have...let's
say...a one is to four ratio between this and the healing potion. Of
course if you're using a spell caster that ratio can as much as switch
values. But anyway, this potion also comes in the same size levels
as the Healing Potion, so go figure. Note: Mana potions are no longer
for sale anywhere in the Diablo2 world, so better cherish them when
you get them.

3) Potion of Rejuvenation

This is without a doubt the most important potion for higher level
players. The thing is, besides the fact that it restores BOTH your
health and mana, it restores thirty PERCENT of it, not some fixed
value like the red and blue potions. Thus as your max health goes
higher, so does the part of it restored by this red+blue=purple
concoction. And if that ain't enough, this dandy piece of a lifesaver
restores what it does INSTANTLY, unlike the gradual ways of the other
two. Note: There also exists a potion of FULL Rejuvenation, which
instantly restores ALL your health and mana---cool!!

4) Antidote, Thawing, and Stamina Potions

These are the defensive potions and are used to "cure" your most common
Diablo2 related problems. Among them is a black potion, the Antidote,
which immediately neutralizes any amount of poison that happens to
enter your blood stream. Feeling cold? Then the Thawing potion is for
you. Cures colds just as quickly. And finally the Stamina potion,
colored white, which cures cramps and sprains or in other words depletion
of the run meter.

5) Strangling, Choking, and Rancid Gas Potions

And now for the Offensive potions. These mean n' green concoctions,
as you might have already guessed, inflict some serious poison damage
on the earlier opponents. They tend to become less and less useful
during the later stages, so I recommend seeing these only as sources
of income (SELL, SELL, SELL!!) The cone shaped bottle contains the
Strangling Gas Potion, the cylindrical one holds the Choking Gas, and
the spherical safekeeps the Rancid.

6) Fulminating, Exploding, and Oil Potions

Our second batch of offensive solutions include these yellow-orange
liquids. They inflict fire damage, and like their green counterparts,
are only a bit useful early in the game. They really wouldn't be that
much help against the bosses, and their main purpose is to just build
your cash meter up =p You can use them to stall a crowd that comes at
you when you're pathetically out of arrows or equiped with a broken
blade, but that's about it.

7) Scrolls of Identify and Town Portal

Unlike the first installment of this game, there will only be two types
of scrolls can be readily available during the game. One would be
the Scroll of Identify, which would prove quite useless after Cain
the Elder's mission (*note: Identify enables you to use a newly found
magic, set, rare, or unique item), and the Scroll of Town Portal, which
is a lot more invaluable. The Town Portal spell enables you to get
to the town from virtually anywhere in the game. This proves most
useful in tough times when retreat is more than necessary. Note: There
also exists a Tome of Identify/Town Portal, which, again unlike in
Diablo1, do no more than store their respective scrolls, and up to
twenty of them.

8) Keys

Well, they open locked chests, what else? There are no such things
as locked doors in the Diablo2 realm, so these keys won't be used for
that purpose. Instead they open things that contain riches ranging
from gold in the thousands to items found nowhere else to...well...
dust particles =p Yes, there are empty chests in this game, but keys
don't cost much so better take the risk than be sorry without even
knowing you are.

9) Gems

Ever see one of those "Socketed" Weapons with two to three holes in
them? Well it's these gems that you "socket" into those items. And
depending on what type and quality (Chipped/Flawed/Normal/Flawless/
Perfect) of gem you insert as well as what type of item it is inserted
on, your item will get an additional stat bonus. Inserting different
types of gems will yield a versatile item, while inserting those of
the same type would allow you to create a weapon more powerful in a
certain area. Here's a little chart on each gem and the stat they boost.

When inserted on a
Type of Gem | Helm | Shield | Weapon
-------------------------
| | |
Amethyst | Strength | Defense | Attack Rating
Diamond | Attack Rating | All Resistances | Damage to Undead
Emerald | Dexterity | Poison Resist | Poison Damage
Ruby | Max HP | Fire Resist | Fire Damage
Sapphire | Max Mana | Cold Resist | Cold Damage
Topaz | Chance to Find| Lightning Resist| Lightning Damage
| Magic Item | |
| | |
-------------------------
* This of course is not a gem, but is considered such in Diablo2

* Spells, or Skills as they are now commonly known, are no longer universal
as in Diablo1. Each character class now has a unique set of skills that
best suits his/her area of expertise. Spells in Diablo2 are also no
longer learned through books and cast through scrolls ('cept for the
Identify and Town Portal), but are leveled up as your character levels
up. Each time your characters increases in level, you are given one
skill point to pour on a skill of your choice. Each skill has a limit
of twenty skill points, so you can't just abuse a single ability.

* These areas of worship come your way throughout the whole game. All
you have to do is click on them and they'll give you something in
return. They have different names, different things to say, and therefore
different corresponding effects (but if the effect happens to be an
attribute boost, it will only last for a limited time)

And one more thing: There are in the game shrine-like locations called
wells that pretty much work the same way except for the fact that they
don't give out messages, can be used twice in a row, and after that only
needs some waiting before they could be used AGAIN. There are only two
types of wells in Diablo2: Health and Mana.

four main bosses) that you'll find in the game just in case you'd like
to know just how many more you haven't met (some are copied directly from

And these are what those abilities actually mean.....
(copied from the Diablo2.com site)

Aura Enchanted - Much like the paladin, this monster has an aura that
affects it and any other monsters within a certain radius.
Here are the possible auras: Might, Holy Fire, Thorns,
Holy Freeze, Holy Shock, Conviction, and Fanaticism.
Kill the main unique first in order to get rid of the
aura.

Cold Enchanted - Attacks are imbued with a cold effect that does extra
damage and can chill your character, slowing you considerably.
Upon death, the monster explodes in a frost nova that
does a lot of damage and also chills. Be careful that
you aren't at low life when you kill one of these critters.
Also has 75% cold resist and a double chance to hit.

Cursed - 50% chance of performing the Amplify Damage curse on you each
time the monster hits. The curse is performed at the monster's
level divided by 4, so there can be quite a large radius and
duration.

Extra Fast - Both the monster and its pack of minions move more quickly.
Additionally, the main unique attacks twice as quickly.

Extra Strong - The unique deals 3x as much minimum and maximum damage
and has +25% to hit.

Fire Enchanted - Adds fire damage to the monster's attacks and makes it
explode in a damaging shower of flesh and blood upon
it's death. Also gives 75% fire resist and a double
chance to hit.

Lightning Enchanted - This is without a doubt the deadliest monster skill.
These monsters have extra lightning damage added
to their attacks and also emit a shower of deadly
charged bolts each time they are struck. The bolts
radiate out in many directions and are difficult
to avoid. They are also quite damaging. On top of
this, the monsters have a double chance to hit and
75% lightning resist.

Magic Resistant - Resist all 75%. This is mainly a problem for the sorceress.

Mana Burn - Can drain up to four times its normal damage in mana each
hit. Also has double the normal chance to hit and Magic Resist
75%. This can be a big problem for the heavily mana using
characters since they tend to have low defense and get hit
a lot anyway. Hit these guys from range unless you are a
melee fighter.

Multiple Shot - The monster fires 3 or 5 of whatever projectile it normally
uses. This could be arrows, fireballs or anything else.

Spectral Hit - Randomly adds an element (cold, fire, lightning, poison)
to each attack. Also has 20% fire, lightning, and cold
resist, and double the regular chance to hit.

Stone Skin - Increases the monsters damage resist by 80% and multiplies
its AC by 3. These guys take a long time to go down.

Teleport - If the monster has less than a third health or it is a ranged
monster and someone is close by, it will teleport. If its life
is below a third, 25% of its max life will be added back.
These guys are really annoying. You need to hit them with a
strong barrage to stun them and finish them off.

Thieving - Monster steals potions out of the belt.

* So the next time you see a Bone Spirit caster on Multiple Shot or a
Stone Skinned Life Stealer with Teleport, run..... =P

THE NAME SAYS IT ALL---A FEW FACTS, VIEWS, AND ADVICES FOR BETTER PLAYING:

I. MAP REVEALER -> "THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD"

Diablo2 is a game that requires quite a lot of finding the right
things on th right places. And most of the time you spend not fighting
is spent in finding that darn cave or that darn underground...anything.
These places are randomly generated everytime you start a new game from
scratch, so seems that random luck with some random wandering is the
best and only way to find your destinations, right? WRONG!! Or at lease
in Act 1 it's wrong. You see, in Act 1, there is such a thing as a "Yellow
Brick Road" or a path easily identified because it is bare (without grass
unlike most parts of the map). Following this path all the time will lead
you to one of four things: a large pack of goblins, a shrine, an entrance
to a cave, building, passage, etc, or an exit to the next section of the
entire Act 1 map. So don't lose track and I'm sure you'll complete those
missions in record time.

II. LOADING - "THE WAY OF THE BARBARIC COMPUTER SCIENTIST"

Blizzard tried to make the game a little more "fair" and "challenging"
by eliminating the Load option in the Esc menu. They also linked their
save function with their exit function, so as, theoretically, to save
the effects of every single thing you do while playing the game. Now
while this new interface can be advantageous at times, the potential
frustration it can bring about outweighs its usefulness. Picture this:
You drop all your items on the ground to fix your inventory, and suddenly
the game crashes or you accidentaly hit "Save and Exit". That's right,
you go bonkers. But all's not lost yet---IF you knew about the rather
barbaric way of re-loading a previously saved game. Here's how: When you
save the game once, Diablo stores all your info in a folder called "save",
in separate files all named after your character. It's this folder (or
those files that are yours) that you may back up in another part of your
hard drive or in a handy diskette and update as often as possible. Now
anytime you feel like the way you were in your previous game was a lot
better than your present condition, just quit and copy your back-up files
in the save folder.

III. BAD@$ BOSSES -> "THE NEWBIE'S ECONOMY"

Let's face it, going through the game the first time won't really
allow anyone to get pass the bosses without at least suffering a small
scratch that, for lower level players, could prove fatal. Most of you
would just think, "Hey, I'll just rack up on Health Potions and get it
over with!" Sure, that may work most of the time, but besides the fact
that it sometimes won't, it just costs too damn much. Now what I do is
rack up on TOWN PORTALS (scrolls and/or tomes) and cast Town Portal just
before I fight the boss. Then when I do and consequently die, I'll end
up in the town, all naked, but with a portal nearby that leads to the
boss's lair. Then I enter, cast another Town Portal, loot my own corpse,
and start a rematch with the monster. Doing this over and over, I'll finally
get the upper hand and eventually defeat the boss---WITHOUT using a single
potion of health! Of course, this only works on Normal Difficulty, since
dying costs way too much experience points in the higher levels.

IV. ELECTRIC MONSTERS - "THE CHARGED BOLT THEORY"

The most annoying characteristics a monster could have is the
ability to unconsciously pack a whallop at the slightest hint of pain,
and the ability to just kill anyone who dare deliver the final blow.
Well the electric monsters (the most common example being the beetle)
have both these abilities, and for that reason alone should they be feared.
They blast of a handful of charged bolts whenever attacked, and blast
a whole lot more when finally killed. Engaging in melee combat seems out
of the question, but wouldn't you agree they'd die fast if they couldn't
damage you with their shards of electricity? Well there is a way! Electric
monsters shoot out bursts of charged bolts in a lot---but not all---directions.
Therefore, each electric monster has some sort of "blind spot" with regards
to its electricity burst. And it's this blind spot that you have to find
and attack from. If you happen to still have the same amount of life after
you strike the abomination, then you have found the right angle of attack.
Just continue slashing and I guarantee you quick death of your electrifying
foes. Trapping them in corners before looking for that perfect spot to
attack is an even better strategy.

V. CHOOSING FLIGHT OVER FIGHT -> "THE UNORTHODOX EXODUS"

So what do you do when a pack o' beats start overwhelming your
little brittle body? For this question I'd probably get the unanimous
reply: "Run my @$ off, what else?" And while that is a very sound thing
to do (in the absence of Town Portal Scrolls and any helpful potions),
it is not the most efficient considering the fact that your stamina
will eventually get all burned out, and you'll die anyway. The correct
answer is (believe it or not) to WALK. Yes, to walk. You should only
run for immediate distance from the pack's center, and when an overwhelming
number of projectile attacks are being directed on your poor soul. Otherwise,
walking is the key. Why? Because these dumb monsters only mimic your
general speed, thus will only truly catch up on you when you're not
moving at all. Run and they will run after you. Walk and they will escort
you to your destination. Start running again only when you see another
pack coming from another direction, but once you see the two packs become
one, resume walking your @$ off.

VI. HODRADRIC CUBE - "THE TRUE POWER OF MODERN ALCHEMY"

As our good friend Cain the Elder said himself, the Horadric
Cube is not only for restoring the Horadric Staff, but also for a great
big deal of "Transmutations". If you play your cards right and insert'
the right combination of items in the cube and hit transmute, you will
get something new, something that may not be of the same value, but at
the time being could be just what you're looking for. Below are some of
the cube's common formulae:

1 Axe + 2 Daggers = 1 Throwing Axe
1 Spear + 1 Quiver of Arrows = 1 Stack of Javelins
2 Quivers of Arrows = 1 Quiver of Bolts
2 Quivers of Bolts = 1 Quiver of Arrows
3 Amulets = 1 Ring
3 Rings = 1 Amulet
3 Health Potions + 3 Mana Potions = 1 Potion of Rejuvenation
3 Health Potions + 3 Mana Potions + 1 Gem = 1 Potion of Full Rejuvenation
3 Non-perfect Gems (same type and quality) = 1 Gem of Higher Quality
3 Perfect Gems + 1 Magic Item = 1 Magic Item of Same Type
4 Antidote Potions + 1 Emerald + 1 Ring = 1 Viridian Ring
4 Exploding Potions + 1 Ruby + 1 Ring = 1 Garnet Ring
4 Thawing Potions + 1 Sapphire + 1 Ring = 1 Cobalt Ring
6 Gems + 1 Sword = 1 Socketed Long Sword

VIII. SECRET STAGE -> "THE MOO MOO FARM"

At last, a rather easier way to get to the famed "Cow Level".
I must admit that Diablo1's Cow Level is still an unconfirmed rumor for
me, so anyone who could shed some light on this issue, by all means please
drop me a line. Anyway, here in Diablo2 the Cow Level can be accessed
after you have defeated Diablo himself, and have chosen to re-enter that
same difficulty where you have defeated the Lord of Terror. Use the Pandemonium
Fortress's Waypoint to get yourself to Act 1, in the Rogue Encampment.
Now pick a nice good spot (actually anywhere in town would do) and transmute
(yes, using the Hodradric Cube) a Tome of Town Portal along with Wirt's
Leg. And you thought that leg was rather useless, didn't you? Ok, time
to re-visit Tristram boy!! Go and re-loot the dead merchant's body! Got
it now? Good. Once transmuted, a red portal will appear. Step through
it (of course) and poof! You're there! At long last!! The Cow Level!!
But wait.....OMGWTF?!?! Cows standing on two feet with polearms are coming
from all directions!! Run, baby, run!! =D Ok, ye want some Moo Moo strategies?
Here's some:

1) NEVER NEVER EVER EVER die anywhere near the portal back to town. Why?
You'll usually die by the swarm and end up in the town again, right? Well
that means the red portal would be swarming with muscle-bound cows (and
believe me, they ARE strong) that'd kill you the moment you re-enter from
the town all naked. So now how do you get your precious corpse (and items)
back? Get the point?

2) Keep moving. These cows may be a little slow, but their numbers can
enable them to get all over you in seconds. There really is no problem
if you're using projectile attacks, but if you're playing melee, then
the more you have to keep yourself on the go. Keep an eye out for cows
straying from the crowd cause it's these cows that you start bashing first.

3) Abuse your God given talents. Each character class has a skill that
is most effective on cow land. The Paladin has both has offensive and
defensive auras to thank, though experience has hand-picked "Thorns" as
the number one aura to use against these cows. Holy Freeze also helps
in stalling when needed, but otherwise Thorns is where it's at. The Barbarian
has his Whirlwind, which in itself can like, shave the farm free of cows ;)
Also recommended is the use of Leap Attacks for escaping. The Amazon has
her Strafe and her Multiple Shot for those that concentrated on her Bow
and Arrow skills, and her Lightning Fury as well as her Lighting Strike
for those that poured some serious skill points on the Spear and Javelin
side. For the Necromancer, two words: CORPSE EXPLOSION. This spell is
without a doubt the best and cheapest to use against your beloved mammals.
Corpse explosion doesn't care how strong the opponent is, and works best
against large groups of the same type of creature. It was MADE for the
cow level! And lastly for the Sorceress, Fire Skills seem to do the job
best, as in the case of Fire Walls and Hydras, but if you just didn't
happen to believe in them, then I guess a Frozen Orb or even at least
a Chain Lightning would do.

4) Make sure you find and defeat the Cow King before you decide to call
it a day. The red portal won't come back when you reload the game, so
bye-bye neat items for you if you quit without even checking the cow boss
out yourself. There also is another unique cow there, and he yields some
pretty dandy stuff too. Come to think of it, just clear the entire area!
It's not that big really, and all it takes is a little patience.

And as a final note, don't expect an easy level up in these areas, cause
them cows are really.....really.....low in giving out experience points.

IX. MOST IMPORTANT TIP OF ALL:

If you ever come across a ring that gives +2 to all Necromancer's Skills,
SEND IT TO ME! I guarantee you WON'T be disappointed ^_^

No matter which character you choose, you end up with the same ending.
But, unlike in Diablo1, it really does look as if the guys there at Blizzard
actually spent a whole lotta time pulling this off. Anyway, there is a
total of five FMVs distrubuted throughout the game, and there is no better
way to narrate the ending than to include everything else. Here goes:

Old man: \
> yep, ye guessed it, coming soon! =p
Stranger: /

.....and so after all your work there is but a lame consolation: rank
promotion. As a male character you would be granted the title, "Sir",
followed by "Lord" and "Baron" as finish the higher difficulties in the
non-hardcore mode. Otherwise your titles would be, "Count", "Duke", and
then "King". As a female on the other hand, you would get the titles,
"Dame", "Lady", and "Baroness" in the non-hardcore mode and "Countess",
"Duchess", and "Queen" otherwise.

*note: for those who didn't know, Hardcore mode is where one death means
the end of your save file. No re-loading from where you were last
seen alive. You're dead.....forever. Pick this mode only for the
thrill of it.
