Extinct Point System
You will get Extinct Points for each Dinosaur you kill. You can spend these
points at shops along the way. Use the points to buy weapons, health, items and
ammunition. As soon as you have killed Dinosaurs at the end of a battle the
point
system will be displayed on the top of the screen. Once the points are displayed
the Dinosaur is officially dead.
When you fight and kill a number of enemies in a battle you will receive Combo
Points. To earn Combo points you must kill 2 or more Dinosaurs within a few
seconds of each kill to get the Combo Points. You can kill as many as 20 or more
Dinosaurs in a row to earn Combo points. The EP Value of each Dinosaur goes up
each time you kill it in a Combo Point battle. It makes sense to go for Combo
Points.
Counter attacks are another way to rack up EP. To get Counter Attack points
simply attack the Dinosaur before it attacks you. The best way to do this is
just
fire at the Dinosaur as soon as you see it. Do not wait for it to attack you.
You
will get one and a half the normal value of Dinosaurs when you Counter Attack.
Health and Bleeding
Watch your health bar very carefully. It is literally a matter of life and death
for your character. You are after all fighting the most efficient killing
organism nature ever created and you are not fighting one, you are fighting a
whole jungle full of them. Below is a color chart indication of your healthbar.
Green Pulsing Healthbar
When your health bar is green it is fully charged. You are fully active and
ready
for war. Go kick ass.
HP: 551-1200 full bar
Yellow Pulsing Healthbar
When your health bar is yellow you are being warned. Start to think about
getting
some health or heal yourself if you have the health in your inventory.
HP: 251-550 half bar
.
.
Red Pulsing Healthbar
When your healthbar is red and pulsing you need medical attention immediately.
Use a Hemostat or a Med Pak from your inventory to heal yourself. If this
happens
and you have no health in your inventory concentrate on getting medical help.
Run
by Dinosaurs instead of engaging them. Focus on getting to a Save Shop to buy
health. One hit when your healthbar is pulsing red and you will die. Game Over.
Survival Note: Make sure your inventory is full of health at all times. Do not
go
into battle without any health supplies. You can buy health at Save Shops and
find it lying in levels for free throughout the game.
Bleeding
When Dinosaurs violently rip your flesh with their sharp teeth you will bleed.
The loss of blood slowly decreases your lifebar. You will bleed for three
minutes
then your character will die. Your health bar will turn red and pulse regardless
of if your lifebar is green or not. Immediately get some medical assistance if
this happens. Use a Hemostat or a Med Pak L.
Mosquitoes will begin nipping your character if you bleed for too long. This
does
no more HP damage but it will distract your character leaving you vulnerable to
more Dinosaur attacks. You could kill the Mosquitoes but more will replace them
and you end up wasting ammo. There is no EP for killing insects. So focus on
getting medical help ASAP.
Survival Note: Buy the Inner Suit. This will stop you bleeding when you are
attacked. You can play through the rest of the game without worrying about
bloodloss.
Saving and Shopping
Throughout the game you will come across Save Points and Shops. These are the
Blue Screens that are located in the walls throughout the game. Just walk up to
the blue screen and press the X button. A menu will appear with two options Shop
or Save. Save your game everywhere you can. Remember to put a memory card in the
PS1 before you save your game.
At the Save Points there is also a Shop. They are called Extinct Point Service
Stations. You can spend your EP here to buy Weapons, Tool, Magazine and
Recovery.
Press the X button to select what you want. ItХs best to buy Weapons and Armor
as
soon as possible. Stock up on Recovery but try to only use the recovery you find
for free along the way. When you are low on ammunition select Magazine and
recharge your Weapon. Keep your Weapons fully charged at all times. See the
Weapons section for recommended weapons to buy.
Survival and Battle Tips
The EP objective of the game is to get as many No Damage Points as possible.
Combos are fun but No damage Points give you huge EP bonuses. Try not to get
hit.
For example each Allosaurus that does not hit you but you kill, you will get
5000
No damage Points.
Please note a Dinosaur is not dead until it lies down in a pool of blood and the
EP Value appears on the top of the game screen.
Use objects like containers, tables etc as cover from attack. Putting an object
between you and the reptiles gives you the edge in the battle. Use it.
Stand with your back in a corner or against a wall in battle. If your back is in
a corner or against a wall dinosaurs cannot get behind you. Keeping them in
front
of you makes it easier to kill them.
Hit Dinosaurs on the counter attack to get more EP. You can hear them coming so
prepare to attack when you hear them. Get in position, select your weapon and
sub
weapon and counter attack.
If you are attacked in the open and can find no cover, counter attack using the
R2 pivot feature. This makes it easy to hit Dinosaurs on two fronts at once.
Press and Hold down R2, Tap R1 and press the X button to Fire. You can also
press
L1fire and R1fire. This attack strategy allows you to hit reptiles on two
fronts.
Group shots save you ammunition. Hit Dinosaurs when they clustered together.
Always use your map to get to destinations. L2 will access your map screen. The
area where you are is highlighted in orange. Open doors are blue. Locked doors
are red.
Keep a full stock of Med Paks, Hemostats and Health with you at all times.
Health
is more important than EP. Remember that. The objective here is survival first.
This move allows you to side and backstep. Press left/down/right and triangle to
perform this move.
A good defense against Dino saurs attacks is to dodge their attacks. Simply run,
zigzag and dodge them. If you have the Firewall then you can use that to put up
a
wall of fire around you. Then turn around and attack them.
Keep on the move in open areas. Run until you find some cover then counter
attack
the reptiles. Try to dodge attacks in open areas. The reptiles will chase you so
lead them into an area where you have cover then kill them. Use the D-pad to
dodge dinosaurs.
Doorways and ladders are safe spots. You cannot get attacked on a ladder or in a
doorway.
Look for areas where dinosaurs leap out from and hit them as they come out at
you. For example in the Cave when you play as Dylan the Inostrancevia come out
from a small cave. Stand by the cave entrance and blast them with the Chainmine
as they come out, then pummel them with the Solid Cannon. Walk off screen and
quickly come back to the same spot and repeat the process. This way you have an
unlimited supply of EP to collect and you collect No Damage Points. Apply this
strategy throughout the game.
If you are bleeding get a Hemostat or a Med Pak L immediately or you will die.
When your lifebar flashes red you are in danger. Later in the game buy the Inner
Suit or the Light-Weight Armor to avoid bleeding.
When you have the Inner Suit or the Light-Weight Armor you can save EP by buying
Med Pak M. As you will not have stop bleeding anymore.
Buy the Gold EPS card as it doubles your EP when you kill Dinosaurs enabling you
to rack up lots of Dino-cash.
Stay in the center of the path when you are walking through the jungle. This way
you have more time to see Dinosaurs coming at you.
Survival Note: In this guide Extinction Points are abbreviated EP.
Survival Note: You can run in this game. Just press the d-pad in the direction
you want to go. However if you are carrying a two handed heavy weapon you will
be
slowed down to a walking pace. You can also fire while you are running which is
a
nice added feature.
Survival Note: If you play through the game on Hard weapons are twice as
expensive and you can carry only half the amount of Medical Recovery items.
Everything else is the same as Normal mode.
Survival Note: To climb ladders and open doors press the X button. To jump down
from a ledge, walkway, container etc press the X button.
