- DOOM SURVIVAL GUIDE -
As you see of the title DOOM is the most ultra violent monster slaying
game in 1993! That to say the least. Before I start comming with details
of how to 'win' this game, please note that the hint file is build
for the RELEASE version of DOOM, typed Monday morning on the 20 of
december 1993.
NOTE 1.: If you got a trainer and are so lame you use it, don't read this.
NOTE 2.: This is an HINT/HELP/POINTER text, and not an exclusive solution.
NOTE 3.: The author of this text take no responsability for any material
or personal damage caused by the hints :-)
Weapons - You all read the specs of the weapons (Didn't you ?) in the
manuals/dox. So here is some hints of how to get
the most out of them. " Fists " Very cute option but not anything
I can see about it is very appealing, when you got 'nuff ammo!
"The Gun" is worthless. Only use it to get a bigger weapon
in the start." The Shotgun " is my favorite 'small'
handgun. It has fairly quick loading time, and the kill effect
is stunning (Rite.. With two shots in the head everything
is stunning!!!) The shotgun ammo is fairly easy to find. Use
also the shotgun at long distances to get an easier kill
when the monsters come close. Also very good weapon against
people in windows on higher levels. " The Chaingun " is
actually nothing more than an rapid firing handgun, the effect
is stunning on soldiers when you see their flesh rip multiple
places in their bodies (Nothing like dying twice). But
sadly the effect is smaller on the big monsters, and it is
harder to hit people with is than the shotgun because of
it's small caliber. Result: Only use if you'r out of shotgun
shells. "Rocket Launcher" Hmmm, very cute if you got some
rockets but you can't hardly find any, and it isn't interesting
to blow up people with it. There is nothing left that you can
look at..... "Plasma Rifle" Indeed an interesting gun, especially
is you want to fry an hamburger, nice option tough.
"BFG 9000" Cool, VERY Cool. (If you ever find one)
Survival- Yes all those guns are great, but if you get slayed it dosn't help
much. The easiest way of controlling the game is by holding
one hand on the spacebar and crtl, and the other on the mouse.
The reason for this is that with the mouse it is very easy to
aim properly. And with the keyboard you get quick execution
of the commands you wish to make. Another very important
thing you should do is to choose the largest screen, ok you
might have to move down to low detail, but it is the only
thing to do if you want to get an good aim, and the advantage
of seeing the shadows of the monster before you see the monster
itself and vice versa. Another important thing you should be
avare of, is too look out for windows, because it is very
easy for an monster to pick you out when he is looking down at
you. On the other hand you get to do that at different parts of
the game, when there is a small window in to an room, that you
can't enter untill later in that level. Simply blow away
the bloody things. Then you are at least free of them later.
An great tip is; when you open an door into another part of that
level, then fire one (1) shot and go out again. Open the door
a little later and if there is any mobile (Monsters that are
not set to stand a special place, but wander around) monsters
they will be close to the door and easier to pick out.
Always remember to enter an room very carefull, because there
is almost always an inmobile (A monster that is waiting untill
you go to a special part of the room) monster waiting for you
to blunder inn, so it shoots you in the back! Also be ware
of very sharp corners there could easyly be an monster
around that corner. Also if you see an lighter or darker
part of the room it might be an switch that activates some
walls that open, and there come monster out. This is very
bad to you'r health! Yet another good tip: The barrels
contain toxic or neuclear waste, they are very good to blow
up if there is a lot of baddies close to it, but if you stand
beside it and blow it up it'll mess you up badly. And if
you stand beside it when a monster shoots it. it'll be the
same effect, so they can both be good and harmfull!
As you probably noticed (unless you'r blind) there is quite
alot of green/blue/red stuff around, it is very harmfull
to you'r health and should not be consumed or walked in....
No.. seriously the stuff can be walked in for short periods of
time, but if you fall down in to an hole, and there is no way
out you are dead! Calculate approx 1 health point for every
2 seconds you are in there. I am not really sure if the
color of the stuff is of any importance, but I really
didn't want to try it just so you wouldn't make the error! (heh)
Armor - Unlike the Wolfenstein 3-D games, you have an armor suit,
there is two moddels. Model 1 (green) is an standard flak
jacket wich is the kind the cops in TV uses, needless to say
these are worthless against an 500 pound monster with a
laser canon. The other model (blue) is an special combat suit
that gives 200%, these can be improved by picking up the
little green eyed skulls, they each give 1%. Remember you
can't pick up an green suit if you allready got an blue,
but you can do it the other way 'round.
Sound - If you have an Sound Blaster 1.0, 1.5, 1.8, Pro, Pro II,
16, 16 Basic, 16 MCD, 16 SCSI or an Pro Audio Spectrum +,
16, 16 XL, Thunderboard OR compatible board. You get to 'enjoy'
the digitized effects. They contain of following sounds:
Gunfire/Lightning bolts etc : Simple battle sounds
Sloppery water sound : Means Toxic waste near by!
Pain scream 1 : Your death
Pain scream 2 : Another Space marine is beeing
killed by a monster or you.
Heavy breathing 1 : You when you loose health points
Heavy breathing 2 : A monster nearby - Be ware!!
Growling 1 : A monster dying
Growling 2 : A BIG monster nearby - Be ware!!!
Growling 3 : I don't know, but you'll
find out when 'IT' rips you'r
lungs out...
A lot of other stuff : Different background noice and
unidentified sounds (Wich may be
created by you'r junk soundboard)
As you might understand, it is very important to listen for
growling sounds, because if there are some nearby it might
mean that there is someone/something behind you.
So if you don't have an sound board with DAC, buy one!
Special - Thre is a lot of special items that I havn't mentioned;
so here we go: The white suits that is found close to
toxic pools, is an anti radiation suit, you can go around
in the sludge for a certain time without getting hurt, this
is especially good if there is an hidden door somewhere in
the pool, and you want to find it, alas if there is monsters
that need killing, it is also an good idea to find an radiation
suit. There is also another 'little' weapon I didn't mention
before because it is not under the weapons selection, its the
CHAINSAW!!!! Sooo Cool. There is nothing like chopping up
an enemy with an big ugly Lumber Jack chainsaw. (Have I ever
seen this in an film ??!!) Well, there is also bonus things
that look like gigantic eyeballs, they give ultimate
energy/protection and is very nice to have, so if you
see one, do anything to get it. NOTE: these things are normally
located in hidden rooms, wich is opened by presseing spacebar
on the walls - the hidden room doors (tm) are normally located
by an light fixture that is blinking over an special part
of the room you are in, but that has no obvious doors.
As you probably can guess these things is the only way you
have to win the game, because in the higher levels there is
not as many ammo/health packages, and especially on ultra-violent
it is crucial that you have the necessary things!
The most overseen option in the game is the beserker drink.
It gives the player a good health %, but also gives him xtra
strenght, resulting in an good hit effect if you use you'r hands
in combat. The last option is the non-visabillty option.
It gives you an invisible shield, resulting in very bad
targeting from you'r enemies. It should be noted that this
option is also used by the enemy, so look out for the dark-like
monsters that is pretty easy to see in the light, but in dark
rooms it is living hell!
The End - This is all you should know to complete DOOM, ofcourse a
great deal of experience with the game for Wolfenstein/Doom Beta,
helps the way to glory, but always remember to be carefull
because it's not a question of speed, but survival.
May the force be with you - err wrong game...
